From 1-4 October 2024, the Mahidol-Oxford Translational Innovation Partnership (MOTIP) team held a series of training workshop at the Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust Research Unit (LOMWRU) in Vientiane, Laos. Titled Research Design Thinking, Proposal Writing, and Presentation & Pitching Skills, the workshop targeted early and mid-stage LOMWRU researchers, clinicians, lab technicians, and research support staff who have yet to take on the role of Principal Investigator or secured independent funding.

The workshop equipped participants with essential skills to transform innovative ideas into viable research projects. Through a blend of theory and hands-on practice, the training enhanced their confidence in proposal writing, sharpened project management skills, and refined presentation and pitching techniques. Participants presented their research ideas to a preliminary audience, receiving valuable feedback to fine-tune their concepts, strengthen their research approach, and gain a deeper understanding of how projects develop and secure funding.

The workshop delivered valuable practical experience, inspiring participants to launch their own research initiatives and empowering them to advance in their careers. MOTIP will actively support participants as they refine their pitches and develop high-quality proposals, positioning them for future funding opportunities within the organization and from external sources. This initiative reflects MOTIP’s commitment to nurturing researchers' growth and preparing the next generation of leaders in tropical medicine.
