On August 21, 2024, MOTIP and TropMedDC jointly hosted the MOTIP Pitching Event 2024 which brought together a community of early career researchers from the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) and the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, to showcase their translational project ideas. Due to the remarkable quality of the pitches, we chose to expand the number of awards given out from 3 to 5 awards.
The Early Career Innovator Awards (ECIA) were presented to researchers with promising projects who have not yet served as principal investigators. The competition was intense, and we are deeply grateful to the 15 presenters who participated. Each demonstrated exceptional potential, but we were able to only select 5 standout projects for the ECIA:
Ajjima Thussachan from the Department of Tropical Pediatrics: Prevalence of Thiamine Deficiency Among Pregnant Women in Thailand
Jaison B. Kolenchery from the Microbiology Department: IFA Testing for Q-Fever
Sandhya Dhawan from the Microbiology Department: Modelling the Risk of Accidental Laboratory-Associated Disease Outbreaks
Nidanuch Tasak from the Chiangrai Clinical Research Unit (CCRU): Community Health Podcasts for Scrub Typhus
Surachet Benjathummarak from the Center of Excellence for Antibody Research (CEAR): Generation of Recombinant Human Monoclonal Antibodies Against Glycoprotein of Rabies Virus Using High-Throughput Single-Cell Antibody Technology
Congratulations to all the winners! We look forward to seeing these projects develop and inspire future innovations within our community.
